Perfume industry has seen some major shifts in 2018. Big brands are innovating to stay on top through the booming niche markets, by developing targeted fragrance blends that are more appealing to the consumer.  The global perfume market is estimated to reach worth US$ 45 Billion in 2018. Below are some of the dominant perfume trends of 2018.

Vegan Perfumes

Vegan Perfumes was one of the biggest fragrance trends. The rise of veganism has impacted almost every aspect of the beauty industry. There was a strong desire for cosmetics to be cruelty-free, with more brands than ever demonstrating their cruelty-free ethos – and perfume is no exception. According to a survey, 64% of consumers had prioritised buying vegan perfumes in 2018. Scents devoid of animal products have swept the market this year, with scents infused with vegetable notes also growing in popularity.

Personalization

Beauty companies have taken to a whole new level through personalized shampoos and skin care products. Fragrance companies had also incorporated elements inside fragrances that are unique to each customer. With the rise of niche brands, there was a significant drive towards personalized fragrances this year. The future of more artisanal and tailor-made fragrance products lies in DNA Testing. Your preferences are selected, according to your DNA, including the type of scents, time of day for use, your personal style, activity or mood, ingredients, favourite scents etc.

Gender Neutral

Genderless or unisex perfumes have gained a huge popularity as consumers were more focused on expressing their individual personality through their fragrances than adhering to gender norms. Unisex Perfumes continued to be one of the major trends to invade the perfume scene in 2018. According to a survey, approximately 72% of consumers liked to try a unisex scent this year. When it comes to notes that appeal, traditionally masculine scents were in vogue with 70% of women’s top-voted perfumes contained masculine woody or spicy notes.

Fresh and Green

The green movement was sweeping across the fragrance category. There is a worldwide movement toward eco-friendly, natural-feeling, light, nature-inspired and fresh fragrance. Natural scents are evocative of our attempt to connect with the essential and our desire to live a healthier way of life with a greater focus on fresher constructions, such as light florals, aqueous, marine etc.  Plants and botanical extracts from vegetables, herbs, and spices, were also in trend in the fragrance industry.
