How This Australian University Is Planning To Target Indian Researchers

India's Higher Education sector has witnessed a tremendous growth in the number of Universities/University level Institutions & Colleges in recent years. The education sector in India is expected to reach US$ 101.1 billion by 2020. It is predicted that India will be one of the largest education hubs. The higher education sector of India is set to get a massive boost.

The University of New South Wales is planning to target Indian Researchers by investing in ?5,200 Crore plan. They want to engage in research and hire-early and mid researchers from top economies, which includes India as well.

Why India

India is one of the preferred locations for international universities who are looking for collaborations. It is one of the key destinations not just for student recruitment but also for research collaborations.

UNSW is looking forward to research collaborations in varied fields ranging from public health to solar energy, smart cities and archaeological conservation. Amit Dasgupta, country director at UNSW India, said, “India is a key partner in UNSW’s vision and research collaborations is a key component of it.”

UNSW is looking forward to focussing on three key areas, academic research, industry and social engagements through research collaborations and global outreach. And India plays an important part in their strategy to focus on all three pillars.

Special Strategies

The University has devised a special strategy to attract Indian Students and to further increase research collaborations.  Ranked 45 in the QS World University Rankings, The UNSW has more than 1200 Indian students and is targeting to have over 4500 students by next year.

Laurie Pearcey, pro-vice-chancellor (international), UNSW, said, “The University aims to attract up to 1,000 early to mid-career researchers to boost its academic excellence over the next decade from key markets.”

Future Growth

Australia’s future growth and prosperity will be driven by their ability to generate and attract the best and brightest. To fulfil this, Australia needs to focus on the education sector. Education is among the top sectors for collaboration in India which will help them to drive their economic strategies. There is no sector with greater promise for Australia in India than education.
