Hyatt aims to launch 11 new hotels across India by 2020-end
The global hospitality firm will be opening the new hotels under its three brands, which include Grand Hyatt, Hyatt Place and Hyatt Regency.

Hyatt Hotels Corporation is eyeing at opening new hotels across India by the end of 2020. This development comes as part of the company’s expansion plans in the country.

In India, Hyatt is one of the first international hotel management brands, having forayed into the market more than 35 years ago with the first hotel under the Hyatt Regency brand in Delhi in 1982.

Sunjae Sharma, Vice President (India operations), Hyatt, said, “We plan to open 11 new hotels across the country by end of 2020 as India is a very important growth market for us.”

Future Plans

The global hospitality firm will be opening the new hotels under its three brands, which include Grand Hyatt, Hyatt Place and Hyatt Regency.

The target markets for expansion include Gurugram, Vadodara, Jaipur, Bengaluru, Thrissur, Kochi, Dehradun, Trivandrum and Udaipur. The hotel at Gurugram will be launched under the Grand Hyatt brand, while the hotels at Vadodara, Jaipur and Bengaluru will be opened under the Hyatt Place brand. The hotels at Thrissur, Kochi, Jaipur, Dehradun, Trivandrum and Udaipur will be introduced under the Hyatt Regency brand.

Hyatt Hotels has also stated that it is open to acquisitions for future growth if there is merit in it.

Going forward, the firm is also planning to expand in tier II and tier III cities with suitable brands

The company’s 2020 goal is to reduce water consumption per guest per night by 25% compared to a 2006 baseline, and by 30% in water-stressed areas.

Business Model

In India, Hyatt Hotels is mainly into the management contract model. However, the hospitality firm is also looking at the franchise model with select partners in the country. It is following the asset-light model.

“India is a very important market for us. It is one of the top three global growth markets for the company after the US and China and there is a huge scope of growth here as the demand still exceeds the supply,” Sharma stated.

Currently, the Chicago-headquartered firm has 32 hotels across 20 destinations in India. The company is operating eight brands in the country, including Hyatt, Hyatt Centric, Hyatt Regency, Hyatt Place, Park Hyatt, Grand Hyatt, Alila and Andaz.

Founded by Jay Pritzker in 1957, Hyatt Hotels Corporation is an American multinational hospitality company that manages and franchises luxury hotels, resorts, and vacation properties. Hyatt has a presence across 60 countries globally, with 18 brands and 875 hotels.
