This fascination has not even left people in India untouched. Revolution happened in 2008 with the introduction of Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) in India. FUE is one of two primary methods of obtaining follicular units, naturally occurring groups of one to four hairs, for hair transplantation. The other method is called strip harvesting. In FUE harvesting, individual follicular units are extracted directly from the hair restoration patient's donor area, ideally one at a time.

The area has a rising population of both men and women more aware of their appearance and wanting to renew the look for a youthful full head of hair. The market is expected to grow a CAGR of more than 25 percent in select metros like Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Bangalore.

India was anyway a potential market for hair transplant with 1.25 billion people and baldness was considered to be a curse. In most of the cases, it has been evident that marriages are fixed on the basis of whether a person has good hair on his scalp or not, making hair one of the most important traits in one's personality. India having the highest number of qualified doctors and increasing number of doctors with hair transplant as their field of specialization has made hair transplant even more affordable. People from all over the globe have started traveling to India to get the best transplant given its low cost.

At the time when training of hair transplant surgeons was not available in India, many International companies established their base in India and also trained doctors here.
