The clinic became an instant success, right from its very first year, enjoyed the loyal patronage of well-known celebrity clients from within India and international.

To get an insight over the current business model, strategies implemented, expansion plans and more, WI Bureau shared a candid moment with Dr. Jamuna Pai, leading Aesthetician and Founder of Blush Clinics.

What change did you witness in skin care business? How you are encashing on the same?
The Indian skin care business is growing by leaps and bounds. Thanks to the awareness created by skin care product manufacturers and beauty magazines. Being a part of the industry, ever since its inception has helped us create a strong goodwill among the consumers, and our result oriented approach has made us popular among all our clients, right from the time we started in 1994.

How your format is different from the other existing or upcoming skin clinics in India?
We have always focused on giving results to our clients. We research technologies and treatments and create protocols suited to Indian skin. Our highly trained and skilled team of experts then helps us in executing these treatments at our state-of-the-art centres.

How are you planning to take this format to other overseas markets?
We are currently focusing on expanding Pan India so that everyone has access to our result oriented, tried, tested and trusted treatments.

Are you looking to raise funds or franchise your business? What’s the royalty fee for the same?
As mentioned earlier, we plan to expand our reach in pan India through the franchising route as this way we will be able to touch the farthest corners of the country like tier II and III cities where awareness and demand for such treatments is booming. Royalty fee differs from region to region.

How have you been defining your consumers? What is the average ticket size of your consumers?
When we first started, aesthetic treatments were only the domain of the wealth. However, today, the scenario is completely different. Even the masses today demand aesthetic services and therefore, the ticket sizes range from as low as Rs 1,000 to the high end treatments which go into lakhs of rupees.

Which are the new markets you are looking at (may answer city/state/country wise)? What kind of business opportunities did you witness here?
As mentioned earlier we plan to tap the metros and the upcoming tier 2 cities having the highest demand and awareness of aesthetic services.

In which area do you face challenges and what procedures do you take to overcome these challenges and smooth functioning of your business?
Running an aesthetic clinic is always a challenge as there are so many technical components to the business. Training plays a vital role in establishing and managing organisations and for this very reason we have established our own training school DJPIMAC (Dr. Jamuna Pai's Institute for Medical & Aesthetic Cosmetology) in 2010 to cater to this requirement. Doctors, Therapists and Operational staff are given rigorous training so as to handle any and every situation that may arise at the clinics while at the same time ensuring the highest levels of safety and treatment compliance so as to give the client the desired outcome.

How you bring standardization in your business in terms of Brands and products, Suppliers, Tech & software installation and Furniture & equipments
Standardisation is the key pillar of our expansion plan. All our clinics should look, feel and operate in the same way. We have predefined protocols, US FDA approved laser systems and highly trained personnel in all our clinics which ensure a consistent experience every time.

Share your experience which made you gain good hold on this trade while phasing challenges in different phases of your entrepreneurial journey? How did you combat the unwanted challenges of your trade?
The aesthetic industry in India is an ever evolving industry. Change is something you have to adopt if you are to survive in this industry. Every year there are new machines and treatments being introduced. We thoroughly test treatments and only once they are proven to be effective do we introduce them at our clinics.
