Snap Fitness plans to strengthen its foothold in India
Snap Fitness, a global health club chain has plans to open 150-200 outlets by 2012 in India.

Snap Fitness, a global health club chain has plans to open 150-200 outlets by 2012 in India. It presently has nine fitness centres across India. The company operates on the franchising model and has outlets in the US, Canada, Australia and Mexico besides India.

Talking to Abha Garyali of FIHL Srilekha Reddy, Director Marketing, Snap Fitness, India said, “We will be opening outlets across India. At the moment we have five centres in Bengaluru, one each in Chennai and Pune. We also have centres in Mumbai.” She added, “We will be launching outlets across India by the end of this month.”

Snap centres are positioned as high value, affordable and neighbourhood fitness clubs. The outlets are generally spread over 2,000 to 6,000 sq. ft.

Indian outlets are also high performing centres and are bracketed among the top 10 per cent of Snap fitness chains, in terms of membership and sales. Snap centres in India have about 1,200 members per outlet and is looking at a membership of 300,000 people in three years. With respect to the kind of franchisees and investment needed Reddy informed, “We are looking for franchisees who have a passion for fitness industry and running a business. In terms of investment a franchisee needs to invest around Rs One crore which includes fees and the equipments etc.”

Globally, Snap has 2,000 centres and 750,000 members and 4,000 members in India. The fitness chain is also planning to enter China, Japan, Sri Lanka, UAE and European markets soon.
