In an endeavor to create awareness on engineering, medical and other courses offered in Russian government institutions The Russian Centre of Science and Culture, Chennai, is organising an education fair here on May 21.

The fair is being organised by the Russian Centre in association with Study Abroad, the authorised Indian representative for Russian universities.

According to the officials, "Ten leading Russian government institutions will take part in the fair and spot admission will be given to candidates furnishing valid credentials supporting their eligibility to pursue bachelor's/post-graduate degree programmes.”

There are no pre-qualifying exams like CET, IELTS, etc. for admissions to universities in Russia, Consulate General of the Russian Federation in South India, Vice Consul (Cultural), Mikhail J Gorbatov told reporters here today.

"For medical programmes, students should have cleared NEET (National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test) exam according to the criteria laid down by Medical Council of India for doing medicine in India as well as in any institution outside the country," he said.

In Russian universities, the duration of engineering course is four years while that for medical courses is six years in English medium.

There are few scholarship seats (100 percent) available specifically for nuclear power energy (in engineering), which is provided by some Russian government companies and also by some universities, Gorbatov said.

Russia presently has more than 2,00,000 foreign students from over 200 different countries studying in 600 government universities and about 15,000 Indian students studying in various arts and science, engineering and medical institutions in Russia, officials said.
