The dominant online travel player has witnessed over 200 per cent growth in the last three years.

With a market share of over 42%, MakeMyTrip is a dominant player in the online travel booking sector in India. The company has stormed into the Franchise 100- India’s Top Franchises for 2020, recently published by The Franchising World magazine. The brand has emerged among the Top 10 brands in the country in the franchising sector.   

Since its launch in the early 2000s in the US, MakeMyTrip has come a long way. With a vision to empower Indian travellers with instant bookings and comprehensive travel choices, Deep Kalra, Founder, MakeMyTrip, launched the app in India in 2005. With an efficient franchise model in place, the company has scaled consistently in the last decade, despite having its share of downfalls before the company listed on NASDAQ, and then finally grew to become a million dollar brand. The company has witnessed over 217% growth in its franchise business in the last three years from 34 franchise outlets in 2017 to 108 in 2019.

Maintaining that the brand has remained transparent with its customers all through the years, the company has often attributed its success to brand reliability, best-value product offerings, assistance of cutting-edge technology, and dedicated round-the-clock customer support. While the company now has a vision to make MMT a travel super app, where it will become a one-stop-shop offering for all travel-related services, it also plans to expand its franchise base to 200 locations. “MakeMyTrip would want to be present in at least 200 locations across India and we plan to partner with prospective business owners in respective cities who understand the market dynamics and are capable to build a customer base for travel, both within India and abroad,” says Kalra.
