Starting a men’s wear brand or a men’s shirts brand in India can be an easy option for those who have deep interest in men’s fashion and know about the international fashion and trends too. Brands like Allen Solly, Arrow, John Players, Raymond, Blackberrys, Louis Philippe, Peter England, Van Heusen etc have seen success in Indian markets and are very well accepted by everyone. We tell you few tips to start a men’s wear brand in India. Read through.

Men’s wear business is indeed a money-spinning business in India. With people becoming more fashion conscious, the business in men’s wear is sure to succeed. All you have to do is stand out in the crowd, bring out innovative designs and see what the market demand is. For better turnovers, you can also hire a few people who can do market study for you in terms of fashion, competition, prices, trends and other raging changes in the men’s wear fashion.

Know your TG
Before you jump into starting a men’s wear brand shop, know your TG. A choice of a youth and that of an elderly person will be very different. Be careful. Always find out where the need is and fulfil it. Study the market well before you start a shop. Offer great buying options for your TG. Be experimental with colours if youth is your TG. For elderly men, come up with various shades of blue, black and greys.

Have something unique
Don’t try to sell out what everyone else in the market is selling. If your competition is best with linens, you can figure out what your specialty will be and then jump into the market. Make people enter into your store for your uniqueness. Ramesh Kaushik, Vice- President- Brand Experience, Blackberrys guides the young entrepreneurs on starting a men’s wear business in India and says: ‘ first, study the consumer; identify needs and bridge gaps with solutions [not products]; strive to always be closer to your consumer and never lose sight of quality and innovation.’

Don’t always blow your own trumpet
Advertising is one thing and always blowing your trumpet is another. First learn how to market your product. Hire efficient staff person. Have a great website that is easy and light to browse with every minuscule detail about your brand. Have best marketing and advertising plans ready. Paid advertisements with sales, discounts and other offers are equally important for success. To gain loyal customers, understand their need. Online plus brick and mortar model both are very important for any brand’s success.

In a men’s wear business, generally your buyer is between 20-60 years of age. The male consumer is ready to spend more provided you have what they want. So, keep a style variety ready, if not colours. Every man wants to look good. Understand the need and keep the stock ready in the store. Like before winter (atleast a month earlier keep the warm clothes n stock). Men are usually fast shoppers and shop and choose way faster than women. Hone your selling skills too and be their favourite shopping destination.
