As a critical part of Indian pharmaceuticals, biopharma underwent numerous changes over time. In the last two to three years, Biopharma has come forward as an emerging market and is expected to grow further.

The advent of covid-19 created an urgent need for research to conquer the pandemic while lockdown forced us for easy business activity. As the situation finally came back to the position, people started learning about undergoing changes and making themselves ready for any other future thing of the same type.

COVID-19: Taking the final steps

To say that the biopharmaceutical industry has navigated the pandemic with ease would be an overstatement.  Until COVID-19, manufacturers viewed digital transformation as a long-term goal; nowadays, it is a necessity.

As the covid situation got better from normal, industries also started to revive. According to multiple economic indicators, the biopharma sector will grow above average due to its benefits. In order to achieve this, the industry needs to transform itself for this new normal.

To keep trial data flowing, companies should shift their focus to remote monitoring wherever possible. While companies typically choose outsourcing vendors from a limited list, they are beginning to expand their views to look for capabilities that are better suited for their specific trials and environments. Alternatively, companies can continue to use tried-and-true methods of data collection such as telemedicine. Embracing e-consent forms, re-evaluating data and endpoint needs, and incorporating in-home nursing are just a few of the actionable steps needed to combat this pandemic.

Gene Therapy – The New Start

A defective gene or genes can make you ill. The genes in your body's cells play an important role in your health. Taking this into account, scientists have been studying ways to modify genes or replace faulty genes with healthy ones in order to treat, cure, or prevent diseases and medical conditions.

In some cases, a gene can be deficient or missing from birth, or a gene can change or mutate during adulthood. It is possible that any of these variations can disrupt protein synthesis, resulting in health problems or diseases.

Patients living with difficult, and even incurable, diseases may find that gene therapy will transform medicine and create options for them. Scientists, in collaboration with FDA, continue to make great strides in this therapy by granting prompt reviews of groundbreaking treatments that could save lives.

Cell Therapy

The purpose of cellular therapy (CT) is to replace or repair damaged tissues or cells with human cells. Many types of cells can now be used in therapy and treatment for many diseases and conditions with new technologies, innovative products, and limitless imagination. Novel cell therapies will be developed using several types of cells and potential applications will be explored. Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (also known as bone marrow transplantation) is the most commonly used cell therapy and is used to treat various blood cancers and haematological conditions. Cancer, autoimmune diseases, urinary tract infections, regenerating cartilage in joints, treating spinal cord injuries, improving an immune system weakened by illness, and helping patients with neurological diseases may be treated using cell therapies.

Synthetic Biology

Synthetic biology involves the application of engineering principles to biology and is a new interdisciplinary area. Also, it involves transferring a single gene from one microbe or cell to another; synthetic biology addresses the design of novel microbial genomes from standardized genetic components, which are then inserted into a microbe or cell.

Synthetic biology uses chemical synthesis to synthesize DNA sequences, combined with a growing knowledge of genomics, enabling researchers to rapidly construct new genomes from catalogued DNA sequences.

Engineering and biology are joining forces to design and build novel biomolecules, networks, and pathways, and to rewire and reprogram organisms using these structures.
