Currently, there are 20 National Highways that pass through Rajasthan and cover a road area of length of 6373 Km. The National Highway 8, which joins Ajmer-Jaipur-Udaipur-Chittorgarh, is the oldest and most famous NH of the state.

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, laid foundation stones of 9 national highway projects of 243Km of length in Rajasthan. during the innaugaration, the minster said that the government will take an initiative of widening the Ninawa section from Sanchore on NH-168A. This widening will help increase the granite business of Chalaur district and will make it easier for the farmers to reach Suratgarh Mandi.

The minister also mentioned that 2 lane Sriganganagar to Raisinghnagar on NH-911 and the Sriganganagar reinforcement from Suratgarh on NH-62 will enhance India’s strategic strength. It will enable Armed Forces to get better connectivity across the border. Additionally a big number of jobs will be created due to which Rajsthan will witness a lot of development and prosperity.

Gadkari stated that the 4-lane flyover in Suratgarh city will help users to reach the destination in a congestion and traffic free way. The construction of Road Over Bridge will help the,\m get rid of the jams while crossing.  It will increase the income of local people too. At the same time, other projects will facilitate connectivity between tourist destinations of Gujarat and Rajasthan.

25 new bypasses were announced in Rajasthan with a total cost of INR 5,000Cr. Besides this, INR. 200 Cr has been said to be allocated for ROB on state highways under Setubandhan Yojana. Simultaneously, Rs 900 crore was sanctioned inCentral Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) Act, 2000 and Rs 700 crore in Setubandhan Yojana for Rajasthan. These projects will save fuel, reduce accidents; boost industrial, agricultural, transport and tourism sectors.

Currently, there are 20 National Highways that pass through Rajasthan and cover a road area of length of 6373 Km. The National Highway 8, which joins Ajmer-Jaipur-Udaipur-Chittorgarh, is the oldest and most famous NH of the state.

The National highways are constructed and managed by the Central Public Works Department and owned by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. Other governmental bodies included in the constructions and management of National highways are The National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited, and the public works departments of state governments

These National Highways are important as they help in transportation of goods and people across the country. Currently, National Highways in India are spread in about 96261 Km. Although the National Highways form only 2.91percent of the total length of roadways in India, they help in about 40 per cent of the total transport through roadways in the country. The longest National Highway of India is NH44 that connects Srinagar in the north to Kanyakumari in the south.
