Eight new patients were found to be infected with Omicron in Maharashtra: Maharashtra Health Department

What is the Omicron variant of Covid 19?

Omicron is the new variant of the virus that causes Covid 19. The World Health Organisation declared it a ‘variant of concern’ on 26 November 2021. With this new variant the world again goes into a terrifying zone. The first question that comes in everyone’s mind is how worse and deadly it could be in comparison to the previous dangerous mutations. As per experts it will take weeks to understand the variant.

As the days are passing the growth rate of Omicron is also on the rise. The first case detected in South Africa and reported to the WHO on November 24, has a large number of mutations. WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus informed that the strain had been reported in 77 countries and had "probably" spread to most nations undetected.

The UK has at least 250 people in the hospital with the Omicron variant of the novel coronavirus, the British Deputy Prime Minister Dominic Raab said on Tuesday.

Besides this, India is also not untouched by the omicron. Eight new patients were found to be infected with Omicron in Maharashtra, the state health department said citing a report released yesterday. Seven of them were from Mumbai and one from its satellite township of Vasai-Virar, the department said, adding none of the eight had an international travel history.

Gujarat reported its fourth Omicron case in Surat where a 42-year-old man who had returned from South Africa tested positive. Chandigarh has reported its first case of the Omicron variant of corona virus as a 20-year-old fully vaccinated man, who had come from Italy to meet his relatives here, tested positive for the infection, Health department officials said. Kerala Health Minister Veena George said the first case of COVID-19 variant Omicron has been confirmed in the state. The patient's condition is stable and there was no need to panic as the government was taking all necessary steps to curb the spread of the new variant of the virus, she said.

A man who had arrived from South Africa became the third person to test positive for the COVID-19 variant in Karnataka. Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain said all the people who have so far tested positive for the Omicron variant in the national capital had a history of travelling abroad. One of them has been discharged. All of them had travelled to foreign countries and were transferred to the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan (LNJP) hospital from the (Indira Gandhi International) airport. On Tuesday, 14th December Rajasthan reported four more cases infected with the Omicron variant of COVID-19.

Maharashtra (28), Rajasthan (17), Gujarat (4) ,Karnataka(3) Kerala (1),  Andhra Pradesh (1), Delhi (6),Chandigarh (1) Noida in Uttar Pradesh is also becoming scary as 5 travellers from abroad are found Corona Positive.
