Ladakh to get its first ever university
This bill will pave way for the setting up of the first ever university in Jammu and Kashmir's Ladakh region.

The State Administrative Council led by Governor Satyapal Malik has approved the Jammu and Kashmir University of Ladakh Bill, 2018. This bill will pave way for the setting up of the first ever university in Jammu and Kashmir's Ladakh region.

The official spokesman said, "It will be a cluster university covering five colleges of Leh and Kargil districts. The university will be established with an initial grant of Rs 65 crore to be provided next fiscal. Establishment of the university will fulfill a long-standing demand of the people of the districts."

The present functioning three-degree colleges of Kargil district will be affiliated to the Ladakh's Cluster University with Degree College Leh constituting the lead college.
