According to Global Information Inc., the Global Market for eLearning is set to reach $169 Billion by 2018, this robust market outlook has changed the online education landscape.

In today’s competitive world where skills are becoming obsolete with time, acquiring certifiable skills to stay updated in the industry is of utmost importance. 

Earlier, what was considered a distraction for students, has today become a medium of learning with plethora of tools at one’s disposal. It is changing the way we learn, think and act. Over the past years, the use of handheld devices has surely exploded, providing children with a wide array of technological tools at their finger tips. As we rage into the world of technology based learning, educational apps have taken the world by storm providing numerous possibilities for the advancement of education and learning.

Technology has always made its way to education, creating a shift in the conventional method of learning. Students find it more relatable and engageable, and hence spend more time in learning with just a click of a button.

Simplilearn

An online education provider of professional training based in San Francisco, California, USA and Bangalore, India, was founded by Krishna Kumar in 2009. The company offers over 400 courses in the area of IT, programming, digital marketing, and project management. They have partnered with domain experts and accredited bodies to ensure the courses are aligned with the industry requirements leading to certifications.

In April 2010, Simplilearn introduced a blended learning approach to Project Management Professional (PMP) training, employing a mixture of classroom and online training. In 2013, it acquired a US-based SAP training organization, adding SAP training to its programs. In 2013, the company raised USD $10 million in a series B round led by Helion Venture Partners and its existing investor Kalaari Capital. In 2015, Simplilearn raised $15 million in Series C funding. In June 2015, the company acquired a US based digital marketing training company Market Motive for $10 million. In September 2016, InnoVen Capital invested in $3 million in the form of structured debt deal.

Prozo

One of the widely used education apps, Prozo is successful in providing the service of books, study material and digital notes distribution. It also offers good margins on bulk purchase of material or books. Due to successful technologies and methods, they are capable of providing study material within 24 hours. They have more than 60 digital content producers and 400 plus publishers who work with them effectively and efficiently.

Prozo also offers its cutting edge technology solutions to publishers in the form a mini-ERP and bulk ordering application in case publishers want to serve the last mile business seller independently. The startup claims that over 40 content providers such as Aakash Institute, CrackVerbal, Brilliant Tutorials, Plancess, learnpedia, Meritnation, and Toppr.com are already selling on its platform.

The company was founded by Jakhar, a former lieutenant commander in the Indian Navy, and Jerry Jose in 2014.

BYJU’S

BYJU’S has recently received large-scale attention from students across India and attracted investors from across the globe. It was founded in 2011 by Nitheesh Kumar and Ragavendra at Mudhumalai, Karnataka, South India. BYJU'S was the first investment in Asia from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative.

BYJU’S is Indian’s largest educational app that has been successful in maintaining its demand amongst students. They input power into their content by adding good quality of animation, clear sound videos and non-plagiarised content. The team of BYJU’S consists of highly skilled people who transform the content into an easy and interactive format for the convenience of students. Fastudents

TopRankers

TopRankers is an app that aims to provide short and crisp notes that will help students to revise their subjects quickly. In this app, students get mock test papers, details and patterns about examinations. Students who are preparing for bank exams, Law exams, SSC exam, etc. must join TopRankers for better preparations.

Several global e-learning players have seen a surge in adoption of their platforms from India in the last few years. In most cases, the number of learners from India is second only to US. However, this is a minuscule percentage of potential learners across the country. The existing global technologies,  content and services will just not suffice. Like in other industries, eLearning would need to adapt and innovate to be relevant for India.
