Are Mobile Application based learning making our children smarter?
There are myriad advantages of using screen based applications for learning. We discovered a few for you in this article.

Today mobile applications are not just helping bright children become sharper, but it is also helping children with special abilities learn better and bring out their best skills. The new classroom is not restricted to the school premises anymore. It is no exaggeration to say that mobile applications are accomplishing a ‘higher degree of precision and efficiency’ as the process of learning now becomes more fun and interesting. The role of the teacher has been completely redefined. He or she is now a friend, confidant that has to move with these changing times and methods of learning; children indeed are shying away from conventional teaching mechanisms and such teachers are getting many raised eyebrows as well.

Take for example filmmaker Prakash Dantuluri’s Hyderabad based company’s brainchild. Today, their mobile application ‘Bulbul’ has made teaching preschool children fun. They simply make learning fun as they use the conventional and grandmother’s favourite storytelling method. ‘Each story is created on a collaborative digital platform that brings together more than 5 million artists including animators, sound engineers, writers, voiceover artistes, and filmmakers’- now that is some achievement. To make business sense, the application is now simply focusing on tying up with preschools in India and converting their curriculum into interactive digital content. Since inception in 2015, the company has signed up with about 1,000 schools in India and recently deployed the app in 300 schools.

Let us look at some of the great advantages of using such children based mobile applications:

Options Galore
There is no dearth of options for children when it comes to mobile applications. Whether it is mathematical formulas, Physics (remember ByJu’s making children fall in love with Chemistry and Biology as well) historical data, there is a learning app for each and every subject. Today, mobile applications are being designed mindfully and carefully, keeping in mind the specific need of an age-group. These apps are enabling children to learn new information by offering the explanation which can be understood by them. You could be using Duolingo for learning languages or Google Earth for geography or even entire course programmes access available on iTunes U. The sheer variety of options is mind boggling.

Every learner is Important
The world of mobile applications has opened vistas and raised the learning bar for children with special abilities. For example EasyLexia provides great relief to children who struggle with learning problems due to a common learning disability called Dyslexia. They make learning fun and effortless through their in-build codes that facilitate the unique learning needs of such exceptional learners. Research has thrown up as many as 22 mobile applications that help children with special needs.

Self learning is best
This is one way that parents can engage children in their free time yet ensure children are gainfully occupied. Mobile usage has become a necessary evil of our lives and children are increasingly taking to the screens.  Mobile Applications are therefore a fun and engaging method of ensuring that your child is learning while he or she may be doodling on the I-Pad, Netbook or a high tech mobile phone. Also, the retention power and learning goals are well defined. So, a parent does not have to worry about whether a child might have ventured into unchartered grounds.

Socialising is Real
If we are bothered that our children may become dull wits being glued to screen based learning, lets rethink how today’s mobile applications are extremely well integrated. Yes, mobile applications infact are being designed in a way to be integrated with networking platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Google Plus. This way, children can easily create their virtual study circles where they can share with their friends what all they are learning about, take part in discussions and even video hangouts. Such a circle of learning ensures a two-way transfer of knowledge; what better way to make friends than through such healthy interactions amongst kids of the same age group? But parental guidance is always recommended!
